My first pen and ink comic ever!

So this one was quite fun.

We were asked in college to illustrate 3 or more pages however we liked from the first 6 pages of the script for the moive "Pan's Labyrinth".

We were given the option of doing lettering of some voiceover and character dialogue. I opted to go without any text as I wanted to practise communicating a narrative without dialogue and rely on composition and character work to convey everything.

Choosing the right article.

For one of my more interesting assignments in college, I was tasked with choosing from a number of magazine articles and creating an accompanying illustration. These were the most interesting ones I found..

Apparently I was the only one to choose this article.

Portraits.

For life drawing we were asked to do 3 portraits with some kind of contextual theme derived from their character.
I decided to draw my Brother. He plays a lot of video games and, like me, is more inclined to cool temperatures and prefers darker environments to brightly lit ones.
As far as figure studies or life drawing goes, these aren't a very good example of it. When left to my own devices, I tend toward a a dark graphic/comic book style that often flattens things out and looses the line work and sense of depth, form and weight.

The Walking Dave

I found a few pictures of two occasions where I dressed up as a zombie. The second set employed SFX wax. It was not easy to work with as it never really solidified when it was applied in room temperature. It was for a Zombie Walk on a very sunny day so it had melted by the time I got home. It became a game of "who didn't know a zombie walk was on today?". There was a couple of hundred zombies taking over the streets. Good times.

Something about the melting wax makes it creepier than the torn flesh. There were bits of me falling off all over Dublin. It was awesome.

Back In The Saddle.

So I'm back in college, so there should be a noticeable increase in posting over the next while.

In the mean time here are a few new sketches and drawings.

Commission Round Up

Here's just a few bits I did for people since I last posted. Regular posting will commence shortly.

A very fine band by the name of She's A Beauty asked me to do an image for thier EP Copy And Paste and a poster for the launch gig for thei track Too Much Confusion.

For the website humourisms.com I've done a few web comics.

I really have to up date this more.

So that commission I did a while back is featured in a nice little YouTube video. Cafe Chill is an ongoing client and I will hopefully be collaborating with them again soon.

One of my recent collage assignments was particularly awesome in it's concept. We were given a list of songs that had a narrative to choose from. I went with "Me and Bobby McGee" by the ever tragically cool Janis Joplin.

So what follows is my sketch of the page, followed by my inks and topped off with colouring pencil. I'm quite proud of the end result while simultaneously disappointed that I have yet to establish a solid work ethic. This, like the previous assignments was done at very much the 11th hour so doesn't really live up to it's potential.

By the gods I will strive to act like a professioh my god Angry Beavers is on Netflix!

And here's the pencil to ink stages cause I'm still learning to do short posts. Due to time constraints there are no sketches for the last three pages.
